“Your Sons AND Your Daughters Shall Prophesy”

Acts 2:16  “But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; and it shall come to pass in the last days says The Most High (GOD), I will pour out MY Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; and on all MY servants and handmaidens, I will pour out in those days of MY Spirit; and they shall prophesy;”

In Acts 2:16, it is Peter speaking by the revelation of the Spirit of Alahym (GOD).  He is declaring  that what was being witnessed on Shavuot (Pentecost) was a fulfillment of Joel 2:28-29.  Now, unless you are of the mindset that says that “fulfill” means “those in the Upper Room did it all, so now we don’t have to,” then I think that you would agree that, the fulfillment of Joel continues even until today.  Furthermore, without rewriting Scripture, it is simply not possible to change who the recipients of the outpouring of HIS Spirit are—“sons and daughters…servants and handmaidens.”  (Since the Hebrew language has no exclamation marks,  what we see in fact, is the customary use of repetition so as to emphasize what is being said.)

If we give brief consideration to what is being said, we readily see:

  • First and foremost, what is being communicated is not a matter of the opinion of Joel or Peter; but rather it is a declaration of the sovereign will of the FATHER being expressed through Joel and Peter as HIS yielded vessels–“and it shall come to pass in the last days, says The Most High (GOD), I will pour out MY Spirit…”

  • And secondly, The FATHER determined according to HIS purpose and HIS plan to pour out HIS Spirit on both male flesh and female flesh that HIS purposes be accomplished through the operation of the gift of the Spirit that HE through Paul said that we should most desire—that is, to prophesy…“Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy…But who prophesies,  speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation…one who prophesies, edifies the Assembly of the Called-Out Ones (the Church.)”

         1 Corinthians 14: 1, 3, 4

Women and the WORD

So how do we then reconcile what is being said in:  Joel 2:28-29 , Acts 2:16 and 1 Corinthians 14:1, 3, 4…with what is then said in  1 Corinthians 14:34?

“Let your women keep silent in the Assemblies (Churches); for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also says the Law.  And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in the Assemblies (Churches).”

1 Corinthians 14:34

May it be established that any apparent  contradiction in the Word of YAHUAH, is NO contradiction at all.  But rather it is an opportunity to gain understanding; as in Proverbs 4:7, we are admonished, “Wisdom is the principle thing, therefore get wisdom; and with all your getting, get understanding.”  So not for the sake of debate but rather in pursuit of wisdom; we necessarily pursue understanding.  For wisdom properly understood, leads us and guides us in paths of righteousness—wisdom leads us to the appointed times and places of a greater outpouring of HIS Presence as was experienced in the Upper Room.WomanPraying

Let us therefore take a closer look at this verse; for if we agree that the FATHER is yet pouring out HIS Spirit upon all flesh that we may prophesy, then I believe that we must as well agree that it is not possible to prophesy while keeping silent.

Much of the misunderstanding of 1 Corinthians 14:34 and other such verses is aided and abetted by poor translation.  In 1 Corinthians 14:34, the word  translated as “women” and “woman”, Strong’s G1135, is actually a word used both for women in general as well as for “wives”.  In this instance, the translation “wives” is the word that is befitting of the context both because of the reference to “husbands” in the same verse, as well as the reference to the Law.  There is no Law which subjects women to men; however, there are countless Scripture references to “wives being submitted to their own husbands.  The clear intent, as evidenced by the preponderance of Scripture is NOT that women or wives be suppressed but rather cherished and protected.  Sarah, as an act of submission rooted in trust, called Abraham master (lord) because she felt cared for; just as we who call YAHUAH, ISH “HUSBAND” feel cared for and joyously call HIM, MASTER (LORD).

“Husbands love your wives as MESSIAH (CHRIST)  loved the Assembly of the Called Out Ones (Church) and gave HIMSELF up for her.”

Ephesians 5:25

Essentially then, what was being addressed was a call to order in the Assembly.  Within the context of the chapter, what was being addressed was speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues and in general, posing questions— all being conducted in an orderly fashion,  which also incorporates the order commanded for husbands and wives.

“In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.”

2 Corinthians 13:1

We Lift Our Hands In Worship

Dr. Spiros Zodhiates, whose native language was Greek, was the Executive Editor of the Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible and he notes regarding I Corinthians 14:34, the following:

“Under no circumstances does the injunction of Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:34, indicate that women should not utter a word at any time during the Church service…Furthermore, the word gunaikes (1135 in v. 34) should not be translated women in it’s generic sense, but as “wives”.  It is wives who should submit, (hupotassomai, 5293) to their own husbands (andras, 435 v. 35).  The whole argument is not the subjection of women to men in general, but of wives to their own husbands in the family unit as ordained by God.” Spiros Zodhiates, The Hebrew Greek Key Study Bible, King James Version, the New Testament:  Zodhiates’ Original and Complete System of Bible Study (Chattanooga, Tn: AMG Publishers, 1985), 1408

Another verse which proves to be problematic to those believing that women should be silent in the Assembly is 1 Corinthians 11:4-5,  “Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head.  But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying dishonors her head, for she is one and the same as the woman whose head is shaved.”

This verse presents a problem because this was clearly an opportunity for Paul to reiterate that women should keep silent…if that was the intended communication from the Most High.  Instead, he declares the circumstances by which men and women should pray and prophesy.

Instrumental to our proper understanding of all Scripture is being mindful of the foundational truth precisely provided to us in John 4:24:

“Alahym (GOD) is Spirit; and they that worship HIM, must worship HIM in spirit and in truth.”

Now, when we consider what Scripture reveals to us about the realm of the Spirit; even more insight is gained as pertains to the matter of women operating in the gifts of the Set Apart (Holy) Spirit.

Romans 1:9, Paul tells us, “For Alahym (GOD) is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of HIS SON…”

Bowing in Worship

So as we can see with this verse, we serve with our spirits, which means although women may indeed be the weaker physical vessel; that has no bearing on her ability to serve with her spirit empowered by HIS Spirit in the inner man.

“For as many of you as has been baptized into MESSIAH (CHRIST) have put on MESSIAH (CHRIST).  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in MESSIAH YAHUSHA (CHRIST JESUS).”

Galatians 3:27-28

This verse tells us that the true identity of one who has been born of HIS Spirit is an identity which is not discerned from outward appearance.  1 Samuel 16:7 says the same,

“…for YAHUAH, the (LORD) sees not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but YAHUAH looks on the heart.”

And why would that be…perhaps the answer is found in John 18:36,

“My kingdom is not of this world.”

So we see that our identity in HIS Kingdom is NOT determined by our physical genitalia—that’s the way of religion which is man-centered. Our truest identity is found in our eternal identity, our spiritual identity which is revealed and made manifest in the physical realm by the way we relate in the spiritual realm to the MESSIAH as our KING.   2 Corinthians 4:18 says it this way,

“While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Indeed, what we find in careful Word study of Scripture is that in the realm of the spirit, “gender” is only made reference to,  so as to clarify for us the invisible reality of function and purpose.   Therefore on the one hand we have “Bride of CHRIST” while on the other hand, the “sons of GOD” and neither term is gender exclusive in the natural manifestation thereof—the designation of “Bride of CHRIST” is not exclusive to women in it’s natural manifestation; nor is the designation of “sons of GOD” exclusive to males in it’s natural manifestation.WomanPraying

Generally as pertains to function and purpose, we see that the “Bride of Messiah” makes reference to the fidelity with which those who are the Called Out Ones prepare themselves for their HUSBAND.  This is in direct opposition to the “Harlot” who proves to be unfaithful.  Let us consider “sons of Alahym (GOD)” within the context of Romans 8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of Alahym (GOD), they are the sons of The Most High (GOD).” This  verse illustrates the function of those who do not take HIS Name in vain; but rather demonstrate HIS character and perpetuate HIS Name throughout all generations.  And as a point of clarification, this function and purpose is carried out, as intended, by both male and female according to the flesh.

The phrase in the beginning of Romans 8:14, “as many as”  is Strong’s G3745 and the definition is “as great as, as far as, how much, how many, whoever“.  In any language, “whoever” is neuter gender or nonspecific as pertains to gender.  The word “sons” is Strong’s G5207.  It is contrasted thoughout the Renewed Covenant with the word, “child”,  Strong’s G5043.  In the Greek Lexical Aids to the New Testament, it is explained that the word translated as “sons”, G5207–huios, is used irrespective of sex and essentially makes reference to maturity in relationship to Alahym (GOD) which results in displaying HIS character; while on the other hand, Strong’s G5043–teknon, makes reference to the basic relationship to the FATHER, of those born of The Most High (GOD).  The  clarification that gender is NOT the essence of what is being conveyed in the use of the term, “sons” is further revealed in the contrast and use of G5207 and G5043 in the passage, Romans 8:14-21.

Yet another instance of the use of the function and purpose of material reality to reveal spiritual reality is in the Book Of Proverbs, where Wisdom is personified as a woman.  In addition, throughout Scripture, the Holy Spirit is made reference to in the feminine gender as well.    Need it be pointed out that neither Wisdom nor the Holy Spirit are reserved for females only. Woman Praying

So what could it be that is being communicated to us beyond the surface of the literal text.  Again, the answer is found when we look at the function and purpose of the material reality that is being referenced.  In the physical realm, the functionality of woman in contrast to man is that our CREATOR designed women to receive the seed rather than being the giver of seed.  So we have then an aspect of the spiritual truth or principle which Alahym (GOD) is revealing to us in the assignment of feminine gender while illustrating “Wisdom” and the “Set Apart (Holy) Spirit”. Mankind is not the originator or Giver of True Wisdom…but rather, when positioned to receive the Seed of the WORD of The Most High (GOD) by virtue of HIS Set Apart (Holy) Spirit, we are then potentially receivers of Wisdom from the All Wise Alahym (GOD)…Wisdom is therefore, intimate heart relationship with the LOVER of our souls… in effect, the actuality of communion.

So, what we observe then is a pattern whereby there are certain truths about the Kingdom of The Most High (GOD) which are revealed to us by means of the example of natural, material objects or material reality even though these spiritual truths or principles are eternal and therefore more real than the material objects used to exemplify them.

WomenAndWorship

Now, of course, we do see cited in Scripture, evidence of women anointed and appointed by MESSIAH such as: “Deborah”, “Prophet”, “Judge”, Warrior, National Leader; “Junia”, “Apostle”, in fact, Paul commented that Junia was “outstanding amongst the Apostles” Romans 16:7; “Anna”, “Prophet”, who pronounced YAHUSHA to be the redemption of Israel, Luke 2:36-38; “Huldah, “Prophet”; Miriam, “Prophet”; Phoebe, “Deacon” translated “servant” G1249, however in other passages where this same word is used when referencing a man, the word is translated as “Deacon” or “Minister”, Romans 16:1; “Priscilla”, “Elder”; four daughters of Phillip, “Prophets”, Acts 21:8,9.

Just a quick observation…need we remind ourselves of who we are talking about…HE is the KING of the Universe, All Mighty, All Powerful, Everywhere Present, the GREAT I AM, SAVIOUR, SANCTIFIER, KING of GLORY, the ONLY WISE Alahym, and there is no other…HIS NAME IS YAHUAH !!! …and HE uses whomever and whatever HE desires to use…which means if HE desires to use a donkey, as HE did with Balaam’s donkey, then that donkey will talk…Or if HE choses to reveal the power of HIS might by causing water to come from a rock, then water will spring forth from a rock…It is truly amazing that there are some who have no problem believing that YAHUAH is able to speak through an animal but somehow HE is unable to speak  through a woman…Selah…

For the Earth belongs to YAHUAH and the fullness thereof…HE reigns over all Creation…so may we remember to place the focus where it belongs…Power belongs to YAHUAH, our Alahym and HE uses whomever HE desires to use whether it fits the theology of men or not…The power belongs to HIM; thereby cancelling out any competition as if HIS Anointing and HIS Callings were something anyone of us could ever take credit for…The power belongs to HIM; not to the yielded vessel which merely serves as a container…and HE said if we don’t praise HIM, the rocks will cry out…sometimes, donkeys and rocks are more compliant than are HIS people.   May we be careful NOT to allow the endowment of the Gifts and Callings for Ministry unto the KING to be consigned to the position of the unfaithful servant who buried his talent…There is only ONE GIVER of the Gift;  and it is ultimately, unto HIM ONLY  that we relinquish  control of the Gift that HIS purposes be served.

May we be blessed in our adherence to the revealed Word concerning the “Biblical correctness” of women involved in “five-fold ministry”– or in other words, the proper relationship between Messiah and HIS Bride and whether women who have been anointed and appointed by the MASTER to serve HIM in the ministry callings of Ephesians should respond to The Call as they did in the “Early Church” …when husbands and wives as well as men and women together as members of HIS Body walked in obedience to the full counsel of HIS WORD and therefore walked in great power…

And if not, why not?

…a brief note:  the videos posted below display a sampling of the Bride of Messiah (CHRIST), responding in submission to the HUSBAND of their souls.  Don’t tell them that your religious doctrine prohibits women from preaching.  It’s too late; they’re already evangelizing and prophesying as they rightly divide the WORD, exhort and comfort…not of their own accord, but as they have been appointed and anointed; indeed, empowered by The Living Word of the MOST HIGH …HalleluYah !!!

In summary, it’s not about us…it’s all about HIM…and we serve an Awesome Alahym (GOD)…
