…and on the seventh day Elohim (GOD) rested…
Genesis 2:3 “Then Elohim (GOD) blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it HE rested from all HIS work which Elohim (GOD) had created ‘and made’.”
The phrase ‘and made’ is not the literal translation there…the literal translation: .“Then Elohim (GOD) blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it HE rested from all HIS work which Elohim (GOD) had created ‘to make’ “
So the literal translation is “created to make” rather than “created and made”. (Marginal Notes of the Hebrew Greek Key Word Study Bible)
This variance in translation, although ever so slight, when taken in context of the literal translation, does shed light on what is being communicated because the literal translation shows intent and purpose which indeed flows throughout the repeated use of “create” and “make” (in the original language, Hebrew, “bara” and “asah”) throughout Genesis 1 and 2…and it is the same pattern which foreshadows the intent and purpose of the New Birth…HE “creates” us anew so that HE may then “make” (form, shape) us into the image of HIS SON, YAHUSHA (JESUS) So while the new birth is instantaneous…the sanctification takes place as a matter of process–from faith to faith and from glory to glory (or manifestation to manifestation)…thus, Justification, Sanctification, Glorification !!!
Now, Elohim (GOD) rested on the seventh day…and if we are to enter into HIS rest…we are indeed entering into HIS finished work, HIS predestined plan which provides wholeness, completeness in HIM… where we live, we breathe, we have our being…the Shalom of YAHUAH, our Elohim…which is not just Peace with YAHUAH, our Elohim but as well the Peace of YAHUAH, our Elohim !!!
Where like Jacob, even though he had the birthright (on this side of the Cross, a picture of the New Birth) he wrestled with HIM for the blessing (on this side of the Cross, a picture of Sanctification) and YAHUAH changed his name…from Jacob (deceiver or heel catcher) to Israel (Prince with GOD)…we are thus made instruments of righteousness, fit for the MASTER’S use…set aside for HIS purpose to be done in our lives and through our lives, according to the measure of our yielding our will to HIS…
Romans 12:1 and 2 says it this way, “I beseech thee therefore brethren by the mercies of Elohim (GOD) that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto Elohim (GOD) which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is the good, acceptable and perfect will of Elohim (GOD) for your life.” Although verse 1 is absolutely essential in our entering into HIS rest, in fact, it even precedes verse 2…we will however, at this point, place our attention on verse 2 as we seek greater clarity and understanding—our intent, walking in a greater revelation of YAHUAH’s WORD to us. Afterall, revelation goes before manifestation. Now, as we take a closer look at our text, may we focus on a few key words and their meanings. Again, Romans 12:2 reads, “And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is the good , acceptable , and perfect will of Elohim (GOD) for your life. When making reference to Strong’s Concordance and the Lexical Aids to the New Testament, our first word for closer examination is Strong’s G4964, the word conformed: to conform oneself (i.e. one’s mind and character) to another’s pattern, (fashion one’s self according to). So, what is readily seen is that YAHUAH is admonishing us NOT to conform our minds or our way of thinking and doing right (character) according to the ways or patterns of the world. Now of course, there is the elemental understanding of what is being stated, however, I believe what must not be overlooked is the word “pattern”. A key instrument used by our Master in “directing, teaching and instructing” (which by the way is the definition of Law— Torah, Strong’s H8451) is the use of patterns and types and shadows. If we choose to forego the Elohim (GOD)-given types and shadows or patterns we stand to miss the mark of where HE is leading us (there is more to be said about this in a subsequent piece). Our next word, transformed , Strong’s G3339: to change into another form, to transform, to transfigure (as in the transfiguration)…Messiah (Christ) is being formed in us…and how are we being transformed, by the renewing or complete renovation of our minds ; which brings us to our next word. Strong’s G3563: mind …the faculties of perceiving and understanding…the intellectual faculty…the faculty of perceiving divine things, of recognising goodness and of hating evil. Now, with that much reference to the word “faculty”, let’s take a quick look at Websters: faculty—innate or acquired ability to act or do…something in which one is trained or qualified. So thus far, in Romans 12:2, we see that YAHUAH is admonishing us NOT to conform to, or “to act in accordance with prevailing standards or customs” of the world but rather to be changed, so that we may be formed in HIS image, by completely renovating our minds, which is the faculty used by HOLY SPIRIT and the WORD of Elohim (GOD) “to train and qualify us in perceiving divine things as in recognizing goodness and hating evil” so that we are then set apart as HIS special treasure as a result of proving .
Proving , Strong’s G1384, to test, examine, prove, scrutinize (to see whether a thing is genuine or not), as metals. Now, this is quite interesting…proving as that of metals. Well, again, we see the use of something tangible being used to illustrate a spiritual truth. The ancient art of proving metals involves applying heat to a solid raw metal until it is changed to a different form, liquid…the substance is then examined for impurities, which are removed upon discovery…until what is left in his pot is a substance so pure that he who is actively involved in the process is able to look into the pot and see his own reflection…image! And so it is with the sanctification process. Although we know of course, that in testing “to see” whether our faith is genuine, the phrase “to see” is a matter of perspective…from our perspective, it is “to see”, however, from the perspective of Elohim (GOD) it is “to show”. And so it is when reference is made to testing so as “to see what he would do”…we know of course, that YAHUAH, our Elohim (GOD) is Omniscient…All-Knowing… which means that HE does nothing so that HE may know, as in the sense of lacking data or information…HE already knows EVERYTHING! So, the knowing that HE does is an act of heart intimacy, Strong’s H3045, (as in Abraham knew Sarah)…whereby HE interacts with us (which is “the intimacy of knowing”) so as to show us what is really in our hearts …so that we may see…and take opportunity to repent and grow…
And so ultimately, we find the progression of growth in the grace and knowledge of Elohim (GOD) in Messiah (Christ) as we focus on the words: good —which according to Strong’s means “useful”…as in, even that which is not of faith; that which the enemy means for evil; Elohim (GOD), in all of HIS sovereignty, still makes it useful and ultimately work for our good…”Good”… as in the pronouncement that Elohim (GOD) made during 5 of the 6 days of Creation; acceptable —which means “pleasing”…as in, faith pleases Elohim (GOD); and perfect —which means “complete”…as in, the perfecting and completing of our faith…or may we say, we see the progression—
Gold (Salvation has a divine beginning, as only YAHUAH, our Elohim (God) could initiate), Silver (Sanctification, which involves us in the process…molding our will into agreement with HIS will…
Precious stone (Glorification…stones of great value endure great pressure in their formation and so it is with us… however, after enduring the pressure of the formation of a precious stone, we as “living stones” (1Peter 2:5) are then able to reflect the Light of HIS Glory)…and of course, the end of 1 Corinthians 3:12 also provides a picture of human effort NOT engaged in right relationship with the the Living WORD as it produces –wood, hay and stubble…not able to withstand the test of fire. Yet another picture of the progression of growing in the grace and knowledge of MESSIAH is provided to us in Scripture as…30, 60 and 100 fold return on the Seed of the WORD of YAHUAH, our Elohim (GOD) when it has been implanted in our hearts. Now, of course, the soil is not without effect in the matter of the Seed…as was pointed out to us in Luke 8, starting at verse 5, with YAHUSHA (JESUS) telling us of the parable of the sower, we see clearly that it is the soil’s receiving of the seed which when received, the Seed then changes the soil all around it…this is true both in the spirit and in the natural. Furthermore, in the instance of Nazareth, the town where YAHUSHA (JESUS) grew up, HE could do no mighty works with the exception of healing only a few people because they could not receive from HIM whom they knew as a little boy…who they perceived to be a mere man…although HE is, in Truth, the Scripture they had studied since they were young…HE is in Truth, the WORD made flesh who dwelt among us…HE is in Truth, the KING of GLORY. Let us receive HIM…
All YAHUAH wants is “Yes”…
Although not to the exclusion of giving to help meet the material needs of HIS Body, let us, however, give GOD, who needs nothing, for HE is the All-Sufficient ONE…let us give to HIM, the true spiritual tithe which is due HIM…Because until we get this right, no amount of material giving means anything…Our spiritual tithe is Number One of Ten…so in fact, the First Tenth…of GOD’S Ten Commandments and it reads:
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.” Exodus 20:2-17
Essentially when we relinquish the throne of our lives to the KING of the Universe who is Almighty GOD…The ONE who, in the fullness of time… at the appointed time, stepped out of Heaven into the Earth, taking upon HIMSELF a Body so as to save HIS Creation…when we truly relinquish our lives to HIM; in essence, it is then that we reap the rewards of HIS divine “coup d’etat” to recover HIS Creation and it is only then that we are able to step into our destiny…and that’s not to be confused with destination, but rather it is stepping into or embarking upon a journey with the Lover of our souls. And just to be clear…why did we need to be saved? Well, because we had been taken captive…”Self ” had been made a vassel king (a paper tiger, one who lacks any real power—as is described in Romans 7) born into sin—with a sin nature and shaped or formed by iniquity—or that natural bend toward sin, or “inherited” predisposition toward sin…or may we say, spiritual DNA…and yet we, who have been born again—Regeneration, “re” meaning to do again…”gene” which is a unit of heredity in a living organism…”ration” which means a food allowance for one day; a share especially as determined by supply…which makes me think of the manna in the wilderness and the LORD as our Daily Bread…even now we have the victory in Messiah (Christ) as a matter of journey or process …and our true life is hidden in walking in right relationship with HIM…so like the Apostle Paul, we count not ourselves as ones who have apprehended HIM for whom we were apprehended but rather we press toward the high calling of GOD in Messiah(Christ)…So now by HIS grace we live our lives before HIS Throne…Let us Bless HIS NAME…
Our Walk…and as we sojourn with HIM we say, Lord, I choose NOT to lean on my own understanding because I have come to learn and I am yet learning with every step that is taken, to acknowledge HIM in all of my ways, …it’s NOT my wisdom…it’s NOT my knowledge…it’s YOU, LORD, that I trust…May MESSIAH (CHRIST) rule and reign in our hearts and in our lives now and forevermore… Amen.
…and so we rest in what HE has already done for us at the Cross …as the victory has already been won, we Stand, therefore, to see the manifestation of HIS WORD for HIS WORD is TRUTH !!!
…and as we wait on HIM…
And as we continue to talk about Romans 12:2—good, acceptable, perfect…I am reminded of Psalm 1:1 Walk, Stand, Sit…”sit”, which according to Strong’s means to dwell, to remain, to abide…Let us dwell in the Secret Place… since it is there that we are seated with HIM …
“How blessed is the man who does not Walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor Stand in the path of sinners, Nor Sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the Torah (Law) of YAHUAH. And in HIS Torah (Law) he meditates day and night.”
“Elohim (GOD) saw that the Light was good; and Elohim (GOD) separated the Light from darkness”
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in YOUR sight, O YAHUAH, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
“The Torah (Law) of the YAHUAH is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the YAHUAH is sure, making wise the simple.”
