The Search For Hidden Treasure

In order to illustrate the spiritual truth we have at hand, may I paint a picture with the following questions…
Have you ever thought what it might be like to go on a treasure hunt…where you’re given a map with “X” marking the spot to untold treasure…Or how finding that treasure might impact the rest of your life and the lives of those closest to you?  What if you were so well endowed with riches that you were able to share randomly with anyone you encountered who had a need…

Treasure Chest to the World

You know, there’s lots of different ways of going on a treasure hunt…
1) TV game show for cash and prizes
2) Reality TV–seeking fame and fortune; or even…
3) Investing long years in college in hopes of a well-paid career with prestige
4) Competition on the job for that next pay raise or promotion
5) Starting that investment portfolio…or maybe your investment strategy includes the lottery or Vegas…
6) Starting your own business
7) Or finding the right spouse and having those long-awaited children
Well, it seems as if from the womb, man naturally embarks upon a journey…it’s a treasure hunt, a search for self-significance where “X” marks the spot…And the tools of discovery used by the natural man to uncover his treasure:  self-esteem, self-confidence…in other words, self-aggrandizement…which means, to increase in power, position, riches, etc. within oneself…thereby, according to the New Agers unlocking the treasure within.
But, I humbly submit to you for your consideration that there is no treasure within until there has been a deposit made by our Creator God…when natural man is then born again and is no longer limited by his naturalness but rather has the potential for spiritual life…being led by the very spirit of God…So…can an empty vessel fill itself…I think not…which means then…all man’s attempts to fill himself amount to no more than “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life”...none of which ultimately is able to quench the thirsty soul…Which brings us to our text…
Proverbs 3:13 and 14…where the Word of God says,
“How blessed is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding, For its’ profit is better than the profit of silver, And its’ gain than fine gold.”
Well, we see from God’s inspired Word that there is a better way than the world’s way of being, doing, and having…It is the Way of the Master, our Creator, who is King of the Universe…He reveals to us that “X” is the spot called “Wisdom”.

Let us then embark upon a treasure hunt of our own to discover what God calls “Wisdom”.  Our tools of discovery–God’s Word as our Map; and His Holy Spirit as our Guide.

As we approach our text, we see that there are three very prominent points to be addressed in partaking of our Scripture…

1) Throughout the Book of Proverbs, Wisdom is personified as a woman…and oftentimes God uses material objects or material reality to reveal to us a spiritual truth or principle…which by the way is more real than the material…
2 Corinthians 4:18   “while we look  not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal…”
So there is a spiritual truth which is being conveyed beyond the surface literal text…that is rendered through revelation as Scripture confirms Scripture.
And what is the spiritual truth of the functionality of a woman…well, in the physical realm, in contrast to man, the woman receives the seed rather than being the giver of the seed…so I believe that an aspect of what the Word of God is revealing to us pertaining to the spiritual truth called Wisdom is that mankind is not the originator or giver of true wisdom…but is potentially the receiver of Wisdom from an All Wise God…
So I believe that a good working definition of Wisdom is life lived in intimate heart relationship with the living God…in effect, the actuality of communion…fellowship with God.The Communion TableWe are then able to see that Wisdom is the key spiritual relationship in our lives as born again Believers…who have been reconnected spiritually to the Father through the work of the Son and His Holy Spirit who has come to live in our hearts. It is the principle relationship we must cultivate in our lives…which is an important point because to the natural man who is not born again…and to the carnal man who is born again but not spiritually minded, the old nature still dictates a lie of wanting to take credit from a sovereign God for the grace that is shown him and seeks his own success through manipulation and control… In the Book of James, which is sometimes referred to as the New Testament Book of Proverbs or Book of Wisdom; James, as inspired by the Holy Spirit tells us in James 3:13-18

“Who among you is wise and understanding?  Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.    But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth.    This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic.    For where jealousy and selfish ambition  exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.    But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy,   And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.”

So for the carnal Believer, there is a form of Godliness, but a denying of the power thereof or… In other words, in not cultivating that all important relationship, we thereby fail to position ourselves to receive the dividends or interest paid …which the Scripture identifies as understanding…and that in turn affects the whole of our life…which leads to…
2) The question, why the use of gold and silver and financial terms rather than fruit, stones, trees, rocks or any of the other various materials which have been used in other places of  Scripture…
Matthew 22:36 begins with a Pharisee asking a question of Jesus…Verse 37, Jesus said to him,  “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the first and  great Commandment.  And the second is like it.  You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
From this passage we see then;  truly our life is not our own…our hearts belong to the One who redeemed us…

In Matthews 22:18-22,  Jesus further reveals the contrast between money and the heart of man when he responds to the Pharisee in verse 20, “Whose image and inscription is  this”  (making reference to a  Roman coin)…when they answered,  “Caesar”;  He, (Jesus), then answered them… “render therefore to Caesar the things  that are Caesar’s and to God the things which are God’s “  The question we must pose to ourselves…whose image and inscription is on our hearts?

In conclusion, the clay instrument, the earthen vessel through whom God breathed this Word, which in it’s  collecion is called the Book of Proverbs, was Solomon.  The life of Solomon  illustrates a key spiritual truth which leads to our third and final point…
3) The importance of integrity to the Word of God…Solomon asked earnestly of God NOT for material wealth but rather for the wealth of Heaven–Wisdom…and God gave him abundantly of both.  Matthew 6:33…God tells us how He knows that we have need of material things–food to eat, clothes to wear, etc. and His response to that need is “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these things will be added to youJust a quick note, as we see from the text God  “adds”  things to our lives; and I believe He  “multiples”  the anointing.

In any case, Solomon, just as his father,  and just as all of us are capable of, made some poor choices; he sinned against God’s Word by making some unholy alliances, and in compromising God’s principles he failed to endure in walking before the Lord in integrity to God’s Word…and  I believe that the weight of unrepentant sin manifested itself in depression displayed  in the tone and writing of Ecclesiastes.

What  then must we do to avoid the critcal mistakes of   Solomon , known to us as the “wisest man to have ever lived”…We must appreciate always what Christ Jesus died and resurrected to give us–The Kingdom…and realize  that as God tells us in Ephesians, we have been blessed in heavenly places with all spiritual blessings… and as we walk with Him…which denotes a journey taken step by step…which denotes  process or sanctification…relationship..seeking to know His will by spending time in His Word daily and thus preparing ourselves for the inevitable tests and trials, however empowered by His Holy Spirit to discern and choose to walk in His Way…and in choosing…thereby positioning ourselves to receive the supernatural empowerment not only to choose but as well to do His will…not mine…thus, His Wealthy Place which is found in obedience…and it is there that we find rest…no longer seeking to control or manipulate and no longer seeking to cover the weaknesses and insufficiencies of self by inflating self…no longer competing one against the other… but rather choosing the excellence of His character–His Name, as we trust in Him for our lives and those of our families…for He says, “Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved…you and your familiy”…and just as the Early Church, we too shall come to an understanding that we are so well endowed that we are able to randomly share of His riches just as Peter did when he said, “silver and gold have I not…but such as I have  I give unto you” and the lame man walked…remember people were healed by Peter’s shadow which I believe is a picture of  “understanding”–standing under God’s authority and receiving His promises…we are to stand therefore…in the secret place of the Most High, where there is provision and protection in as much as it has been given to us to know the LORD GOD Almighty, YAHUAH our ELOHIM as FATHER…
Presupposing the deposit has been made, I believe that the Lord is admonishing us to unearth the hidden treasure and do business–the trade—not my will, but Thy will be done…

For our KING is soon to come back !!!

VICTORIOUS LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH !!!

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life,  and he who is wise wins souls…
